| Rafting in The Smokies, Gatlinberg, Tennessee | | March, 2005-present | | Head Trip Leader | - My duties included loading rafts with equipment in the morning and making sure the raft is safely prepared for the trip.I meet and greets guests, and brief them on what to expect, and gives them a safety speech. Other typical duties included working at the company's office, making reservations, renting equipment, and helping organize and sell retail goods.

The most important duty, though, is making sure the guests are enjoying themselves. You need to be an entertainer as much as a raft guide. You have to make it fun and keep the guests entertained. A positive attitude and friendly personality are a prerequisite for just about any job, it is especially important to have a dynamic and playful personality as a raft guide.

Achievements
- I was one of four involved in a competitive research project. The research project was headed by Dr. Jennifer DeBryuan, and oversaw by Dr. Mark Rasdosevich. The project was entitled "Production of Quarum Sensing Signals by Soil Bacteria." The purpose of the project was to screen a collection of nopn-pathogenic soil bacteria isolates for AHL( acetyl homoserine lactones) and to identify the potential range of soil microorganisms utilizing Quarum sensing.
